Between nature and culture, just as between body and mind, our relationship to the world is shaped by dualisms so deeply ingrained that they constitute us. Until now, I have sought refuge from my own discomfort with this tensionβthis feeling of being βbetween two worldsββin an idealized aesthetic universe where nude bodies, as attempts at allegories of the human stripped of cultural and temporal markers, seemed to be "renaturalized" simply by their presence within so-called natural spaces. An ideal that ultimately confronts its own artificiality.
